Top 100 Girl Names 2024
Written by Sarah at Adored Names
The long-awaited list is here. In the baby naming world, it is always an exciting time of year when the United States Social Security Administration (USA SSA) releases their most current baby name data. This means that we now have information on naming trends from 2023, and let me tell you, some amazing names made the cut.
Below is the list of the top 100 girl names according to the USA SSA. I have also taken the liberty to point out the names that increased in popularity and those that decreased.
The increase and decrease information is shown in this way:
(12. Sofia ↑ 1) indicates that the name Sofia has moved up one position in rank since 2022, where the name sat in the number 13 spot.
(8. Ava ↓ 1) indicates that the name Ava has moved down one position in rank since 2021, where the name sat in the number 7 spot.
(NEW TO TOP 100) Indicates that the name is new to the top 100 list this year and has not been in the top 100 in the past.
(RETURNING TO TOP 100) Indicates that the name has returned to the top 100 this year after not being on in the year or years prior, but having been in the top 100 in the past.

In this line of work I hear it all the time that people want to “avoid a name that is too popular” or “nothing that is overused”. While I do not think there is anything wrong with that at all (I love uncommon names), I like to avoid using the term “over used” as it gives a negative connotation to the name or the family that chooses to use it. Instead, I prefer to use the term “much loved” when it comes to the top ten names. And that’s exactly what they are! They are loved by so many and that is why they are chosen so often.
Maybe you are viewing this list to see what names you wish to avoid or maybe you are viewing this list because you want a name that others have also grown to love and appreciate. Either reason is completely valid and I hope that this list helps you in your naming journey.
I want to point out one more thing that gives a little perspective on the usage of these names. The number one most popular girl name of 2023, Olivia, was given to 15,270 baby girls in the United States in the year 2023. This is over 1,000 less girls with the top baby girl name compared to last year when 16,573 girls were gifted the number one name, Olivia.
The 100th most popular name, Allison, was given to 2,641 baby girls in the United States in the year 2023.
Lainey, Emery, Adeline, Maeve, Eden, Vivian, and Clara all jumped up by the double digits from last year’s standings. While Everly, Brooklyn, Quinn, Aaliyah, and Hailey all went down by the double digits.
New or returning to the top 100 this year are: Lainey, Maeve, Eden, Vivian, Madeline, Lyla, Clara, and Allison.
Now let us get into the names. Here are the top 100 girl names of 2023 according to the USA SSA.
